Tipp-ex experience. The hunter shoots a bear. Brilliant online ad.

September 3rd, 2010 Bruce No comments

Or does he? Amazing idea and execution. The initial video prompts you to shoot said bear or not and then you’ll go to another video that interacts with the YouTube page. You can then enter text to see further vids about the hunter and the bear based on what you have written.

I’ve tried five words so far and there was a video waiting for each! Try using football and also Tipp-ex itself for some funny results. And yes, rude words seem to give you a funny vid to!

Great idea guys and awesome production work!

The internet envisaged in 1969

July 15th, 2010 Bruce No comments

This is a great little video that shows us how people thought technology would help the family forty one years ago. I don’t know who made it unfortunately, but it’s predictions are rather spot on. With one noticeable exception!

  • It predicts online shopping and banking
  • Video cameras for security and so forth
  • The Home Post Office’ i.e. email!

Notice the exception then? Very old fashioned way of thinking about who pays all the bills!

Axe Rise Up Girls

June 4th, 2010 Bruce No comments

Great new advert from Unilever. Watch the guy as he goes through his morning routine and then see what he has missed. Very nicely done and a good take on the brand being about waking you up so that you don’t miss opportunities.

Thanks Adverblog for bringing this to my attention today. You can see their post on this here: Axe Rise Up Girls on Adverblog. French translation for the video courtesy of their article:

Text translation :
- Look closely at this guy
- He didn’t notice the 10 beautiful girls around him. Apparently neither did you.
- Wake up and get ready.

For those that don’t know, Axe is branded Lynx back here in the UK.

Tourism Australia’s new TV ad for the overseas markets.

June 3rd, 2010 Bruce No comments

There’s nothing like Australia. Fine enough line to base your overseas ad campaign on but then DDB produce this TV that seems like an 80’s relic. The whole campaign idea was nice as was the places used throughout, based on user recommendations. But that song. That singing. This is not the Oz I love & gave up my home for. And I loved the 80’s XXXX ads! :)

To continue this slight rant. I was working at Mindshare Melbourne when the Baz Luhrmann ads came out. Cheesy but, being from overseas, I thought they’d work well enough for the target market. The Oz guys and girls hated them, almost as much as the ‘Where the bloody hell are you‘ Lara Bingle adverts, which is fair enough but not the main point. It’s the non-Aussies we’re trying to appeal to.

This new ‘sing-a-long’ Australia is just grating and shows wonderful images in a bit of a bogan and childlike manner. Oz is beautiful with so many wonderful people, places and wildlife. But let’s also show the great food & nightlife. Not just a shot of pony pub where ‘everyone is yer mate’. What about how brilliant it is to watch the AFL on Saturday night at the MCG or the NRL in Sydney & Queensland for instance? Where’s the Melbourne lane ways? I know there’s to much stuff that could be mentioned to fit into one ad but I’m just trying to say a few examples of how what makes Oz for me. An actual show at the Opera House. Roof terrace drinks and food but without the chessy sing-a-long. Bit more style please next time. And cut out the dodgy sing song stuff.

Rant over!

Orli Yakuel and her 2009 highlights in pictures.

January 14th, 2010 Bruce No comments

Orli Yakuel is a digital consultant and social media specialist with a superb blog that I find invaluable as resource of what’s new in the world of social media and applications. And not just what’s new. Are they any good and useful? Her opinions are pretty spot on.

So I liked the fact that she has used Animoto to show us her digital year in pictures:

‘Highlights from 2009 in pictures’.

Nice way of presenting a summary with some good things to look out for towards the end for 2010.

I’ve used Animoto to easily spice up presentations and to help people visualise things better internally whilst creating Digital Creative Services at Mindshare, Australia. Have a look at one of the videos here:

In the meantime, nice one Orli.

Animoto used to show behind the scenes at our photoshoot.

Animoto is a fantastic online tool designed to create good looking videos out of your still images. It includes the ability to add 5 second snippets from your videos and has an excellent library of music from several genres to add to the whole thing and create something pretty professional that does generally impress people.

I ran a photoshoot at Mindshare Australia last year and used Animoto to create this behind the scenes video. It went down a storm with our staff internally. Bit of fun and a nice way to show them what happened on the day.
